7 Mistakes That Put High Schoolers 2 Years Behind
Waiting for school to teach you what matters
Fix: AP Computer Science A teaches Java arrays. The industry uses Python, LLMs, and FastAPI. Self-study is the edge, not the school curriculum. Start on your own in 9th grade.
Building without shipping
Fix: A Jupyter notebook that works on your laptop is not a portfolio piece. Deploy everything. A live URL is worth more than a perfect codebase no one can see.
Thinking you're too young to get clients

This is not realistic for most high school students — even strong ones. Build your Mid and Senior track record first. You'll reach Lead faster than any adult who started at 22.
